My top ‘stay fit’ tips for this year!

I love this time of year…when everyone is bouncing around, enjoying the warmer weather and making a resolution to get back into exercise and eat well in time for Summer! But it makes me sad when the bouncing around stops towards the end of the month and people begin to realise it takes a little bit more commitment to stay fit than just saying you’ll do it and soon the resolution goes out the window 🙁

Don’t fear, I’ve got six top tips to getting started on your Summer fitness journey this year…

Stay fit tip #1: diary your training, the same as you would diary a work meeting or catch up with friends. Actually put it in your calendar so if someone tries to book you in for something on that day and time, they can’t…instead, it will come up as an alarm for you and you can stop what you’re doing and head to your session.

Stay fit tip #2: make a plan, a plan of what you’d like to achieve from your training sessions. You’d like to lose weight? How much weight and by when? You’d like to feel fitter? How…be able to walk up stairs without getting out of breath or to be able to do ten push ups on your toes? The more specific you can be, the better and don’t forget to set a time frame to achieve your goal (or you could still be trying to achieve it this time next year!).

Stay fit tip #3: bring a friend along for the ride. If a friend, family member or colleague have a similar health and fitness goal to you, work towards it together, encourage each other, keep each other on track and celebrate the little wins as you go…because they all make a big win when you get to your goal!

Stay fit tip #4: measure your starting point, so you know how you’re going along the track. When you achieve something it encourages you to keep going and achieve more – so find your starting point and in four weeks time revisit how far you’ve come. For example, if you’d like to do ten push ups on your toes, count how many you can do when you get started. Then in four weeks time, count how many you can do…it might not be ten yet, but if you’ve been exercising regularly in the meantime, I guarantee it’ll be more than your could do to start with 🙂

Stay fit tip #5: dress to impress…well, impress yourself anyway! It’s amazing how dressing the part can change your mindset. Have you ever been to a business meeting in casual clothes and not quite felt as productive or in the right head space? You don’t have to spend a fortune on exercise clothes, but having an outfit that you feel ready to train in can work wonders for your motivation to get your butt into gear and move.

Stay fit tip #6: turn up the music to find your own beat. Studies have shown that music can have a positive affect on energy levels and mood. With so many music apps out there you very easily design an exercise playlist that motivates you not only to exercise, but to boost your energy levels to exercise harder!

I have one more…it’s not really a tip, but I live by it when it comes to exercise…have fun! If your training isn’t quite doing it for you in the fun department, find a training style that does…be challenged but have fun at the same time and, most importantly, feel amazing for it!
